This is the downstream side of the dam. When someone turns on a light in the western US, they send more water through the turbines in the structures down below and push a little harder on the electrons in those wires. Once I was kayaking downstream of the dam during a cold snap. Everyone in Las Vegas turned up their heat and I watched the river rise and speed up drastically. Very strange.
